President Tsai receives congratulations from foreign visitors attending 2016 National Day Celebration

On the morning of October 10 at the Presidential Office Building, President Tsai Ing-wen and Vice President Chen Chien-jen and his wife received congratulations from foreign diplomats stationed in Taiwan and special visitors from throughout the world who have come to Taiwan to take part in the ROC's 2016 Double Tenth National Day Celebration.

Among the roughly 210 foreign guests in attendance at the event were: Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph E. Gonsalves and Mrs. Gonsalves; Marshall Islands Nitijela (Parliament) Speaker Kenneth A. Kedi and Mrs. Kedi; President Jose Antonio Alvarado of the Central American Parliament; Burkina Faso Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Cooperation Alpha Barry; and Swaziland Minister of Labour and Social Security Winnie Magagula. The distinguished guests proceeded to the Presidential Office Building at 9:30 a.m. to extend their congratulations. President Tsai as well as Vice President Chen and his wife warmly shook hands with the visitors and thanked everyone for attending the event. President Tsai was also accompanied by Secretary-General to the President Lin Bih-jaw (林碧炤) and Minister of Foreign Affairs David T. Lee (李大維).

In addition to Prime Minister of St. Vincent and the Grenadines Ralph E. Gonsalves and the leaders of delegations from the ROC's other diplomatic allies, many other foreign visitors were on hand to extend their congratulations, including: US Congressman Joe Barton (Chairman Emeritus of the House Committee on Energy & Commerce); Keiji Furuya, Member of Japan's House of Representatives; Anita Schafer, Member of the German Bundestag; Emidio Guerreiro, Member of the Assembly of the Republic of Portugal; Clare Haughey, Member of the Scottish Parliament; Peter Fonseca, Member of the Parliament of Canada; Nicaraguan Ambassador to the ROC William Manuel Tapia Aleman and other members of the foreign diplomatic corps in Taiwan; American Institute in Taiwan Taipei Office Director Kin Moy and Mrs. Moy; Director General of the German Institute Taipei Martin Eberts and Mrs. Eberts; and Representative Cho Baek-Sang of the Korean Mission in Taipei and other representatives of foreign organizations and international bodies stationed in Taiwan.
