President Tsai congratulates new US President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence

On the morning of January 20, 2017 (U.S. Eastern Time), Mr. Donald Trump and Mr. Mike Pence were officially inaugurated as the president and vice-president of the United States of America. On behalf of the people of Taiwan, President Tsai Ing-wen conveyed congratulations to President Trump and Vice President Pence.

President Tsai said that the U.S. is Taiwan's most important partner in the world. Building on shared values like freedom, democracy and human rights, as well as close and longstanding cooperation in the political, economic, trade, security and cultural spheres, said the president, our two countries and peoples have forged a deep and strong friendship, and have contributed proactively to the peace, stability and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region. The president expressed confidence that with President Trump leading the new U.S. administration, and based on strong existing foundations, the Taiwan-U.S. partnership will achieve further development and cooperation. This would benefit not just our two countries, but also the international community at large.
