　 How can I learn about the official decorations awarded by the ROC government?

The Decorations of the Republic of China (Taiwan) include civilian and military orders. You can learn more about them here ["Decorations of the Republic of China (Taiwan)" under "Introduction to the Republic of China (Taiwan)"]. These include orders and decorations bestowed by the President and accepted from our allies. The Office of the President also published an illustrated compendium of the decorations of the Republic of China, which can be found at major libraries throughout Taiwan, and is available for purchase at Wu Nan Bookstore, the Songjiang Branch of the Government Publications Bookstore in Taipei City, and the Gift Shop at the Presidential Office Building. Users may also learn about "Honors ceremonies" here.

　 How do I write to the President?

"Write to the President" is one way for the general public to get in contact with us at the Office of the President. First, click "Write to the President" and read the instructions carefully. Check "I have read and agree to the above instructions" and then click "Write to the President" at the bottom left. Follow the steps on the Start Email form. After completing all required fields, click "Send message" at the bottom. We will then handle your email as quickly as possible. We value your opinions on government policies and measures.

　 How to request a meeting with the President or the Vice President

Please provide the purpose of your visit, the names and details of all visitors and accompanying persons, the preferred time of your visit, telephone number, and key background information on the likely topics of discussion with a one-page summary. The information must be received by this office at least 15 days (not including weekends and holidays) prior to the day of your visit.

　 Is the president the administrative head of the Office of the President?

The administrative head of the Office of the President is the secretary-general to the president.

The ROC Office of the President Organization Act provides as follows:

Article 9

The Office of the President shall have one secretary-general to the president. The secretary-general shall be a special-grade political appointee and shall, under the direction of the president, take overall charge of the affairs of the Office of the President and direct and supervise all staff.

The Office of the President shall have two deputy secretaries-general to assist the secretary-general with administrative matters. One shall be a special-grade political appointee and the other a political appointee who is equivalent to a 14th-grade senior-level civil servant.

The authorized staffing at the Office of the President is from 401 to 469 persons.

　 What is the legal status of the Office of the President?

The Office of the President is a staff agency that assists the president in the exercise of his/her functions in accordance with the ROC Constitution. (Article 1 of the ROC Office of the President Organization Act provides as follows: "The president shall establish the Office of the President in exercise of his/her functions and powers in accordance with the Constitution.")

　 What units are included in the organizational structure of the Office of the President?

In accordance with the provisions of the ROC Office of the President Organization Act, the Office of the President has the following ten units: First Bureau, Second Bureau, Third Bureau, Department of Special Affairs, Department of Security Affairs, Department of Public Affairs, Personnel Department, Accounting Department, Government Ethics Department, and Legal Affairs Committee.

　 When does a law promulgated by the president take effect?

The Central Regulation Standard Act provides in Chapter 3 (The Enforcement of the Regulation) that laws and regulations shall take effect on the third day counting from the date of promulgation or issuance. The only exceptions are when a specific date of enforcement is set out in a particular law or regulation, in which case it shall take effect on the specific date. A law promulgated on September 1, for example, will take effect on September 3 except as otherwise provided.
