Secretary-General Huang's Remarks Responding to Deng's Passing
1997-02-20

Responding to the passing of Mr. Deng Xiaoping, Dr. Huang Kun-huei, Secretary-General to the President, made the following remarks on February 20, 1997:

First, we would like to extend to the family of the late Mr. Deng our sympathy and sincere condolences.

Ever since Mr. Deng fostered economic reforms on the Chinese mainland, Taiwan's private sector has joined in providing capital, technology, and brainpower to inject new vigor into the economic development of the Chinese mainland and upgrade the standard of living there. We sincerely hope that under stable circumstances, both sides will continue strengthening trade, information, technology, academic, sports, and agricultural exchanges and cooperation to usher in a new era of peace, cooperation, and prosperity on both sides of the Taiwan Straits.
