President Lee Teng-hui this morning confers the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon on Prime Minister Solomon Mamaloni of the Solomon Islands, in recognition of his contribution to promoting bilateral relations between the two countries.
Prime Minister Mamaloni says that it is a great honor to be decorated by President Lee, adding that the decoration can be regarded as an important indicator signaling the friendly ties between the ROC and the Solomons.
Meanwhile, on behalf of the people and the government of the Solomon Islands, Prime Minister Mamaloni thanks the ROC government for all her assistance over the past years. And he assures President Lee that he will do his utmost to further cement bilateral ties.
The ceremony is held at Chiehshou Hall inside the Presidential Building. Dr. Ding Mou-shih, secretary-general of the ROC National Security Council, Mr. Stephen S.F. Chen, deputy secretary-general to the President, and Mr. John Chang, ROC foreign minister, are also present to witness the ceremony.
