President Lee Meets with Japanese Congressmen
1997-03-20

President Lee Teng-hui this morning receives two visiting Japanese Sakigake Party congressmen --Representative Takemura Masayoshi and Senator Okumura Tenzo--and warmly welcomes them.

During the meeting, President Lee says that the relations between the ROC and Japan stand close although the two countries have no diplomatic ties. He hopes that the Sino-Japanese bilateral friendship could be further cemented through even more exchanges of visit. The President and Rep. Takemura, who is known for his promotion of environmental protection, also share their views on ecological affairs.

Accompanied by Mr. Tzen Wen-hua, ROC vice foreign minister, and Mr. Lin Chin-chin, president of Association of East Asia Relationship, the Japanese guests come to the Office of the President for the meeting. Also present are Dr. Ding Mou-shih, secretary-general of the ROC National Security Council, and Mr. Stephen S. F. Chen, deputy secretary-general to the President.
