President Lee Teng-hui this morning conferred the Order of Brilliant Star with Special Grand Cordon on Salvadoran First Lady Elizabeth Aguirre de Calderon Sol, in recognition of her contributions to promoting relations between the Republic of China and the Republic of El Salvador.
The decorating ceremony was held at the Office of the President in Taipei. Madame Lee, the ROC's first lady, Dr. Huang Kun-hui(secretary-general to the President), Mr. Stephen S. F. Chen (deputy secretary-general to the President), Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Chen (vice minister of foreign affairs), Mr. and Mrs. David Ernesto Panama S. (Salvadoran ambassador to the ROC), and wives of the ambassadors of several Central American countries to the ROC were invited to witness the ceremony.
In her remarks after receving the medal, Madame Calderon Sol said she came to the ROC to receive the decoration with pride and modesty.
The Salvadoran First Lady expressed that she will share the honor with all the women of the ROC and her motherland. "I'll pray for Gods blessing for our two countries",she said.
At the end of her speech, Madame Calderon Sol thanked President Lee again, adding that she will always treasure the accolade.
