President Lee Teng-hui this morning received credentials presented by H.E. Victor Manuel Sanchez Pena, the Dominican Republic's new ambassador to the Republic of China.

Accompanied by Director John Feng of the ROC Foreign Ministry's Protocol Department, Ambassador Sanchez came to the Office of the President to present his credentials. Dr. Huang Kun-hui, secretary-general to the President, and ROC Foreign Minister John Chang were also present.

After the presentation, President Lee extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Sanchez, and hoped that Sino-Dominican ties, based on the traditional close relations, could be further enhanced during his tenure here. The President also suggested the new Dominican envoy make more friends with businessmen in Taiwan and encourage them to invest more in Dominica.

For his part, Ambassador Sanchez firstly conveyed Dominican Republic President Leonel Fernandez's greetings to President Lee. He said that the Dominican Republic is appreciative of the ROC's technical assistance and investment over the past years, which have contributed much to his country's economic development. Feeling very proud of being stationed here as an ambassador, he assured the President that he will do his utmost to promote cooperation and exchanges between the two countries during his tenure of office.
