The Presidential building opened today to the general public from 8:00 am to 16:00 pm, during which period a total of 12,981 persons had toured the building.
A special tour route was designed for the handicapped visitors; each of such visitors was accompanied by a staff member of the Office of the President. A total of 50 persons had made use of this service.
In connection with the opening of the Presidential Building, the square in front of the building was also opened for such activities as fork dance and skating.
The Presidential Building was first opened to the public on January 2, 1995. It is now open four times a year, on January 2 and a Sunday in April, August and November. The next opening day will be August 3, 1997.
Inside the building, visitors can tour the Entrance Hall, the President's Office, the President's Reception Room, the Auditorium and two newly-installed gardens. Moreover, ten life-sized cardboard cutouts of President Lee Teng-hui and Vice President Lien Chan are put on display for visitors to take pictures.
