President Lee Receives Credentials From New Swazi Ambassador
1997-04-22

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received credentials presented by H. E. Clifford Sibusiso Mamba, the new ambassador of the Kingdom of Swaziland to the Republic of China.

Accompanied by Director John Feng of the ROC Foreign Ministry's Protocol Department, Ambassador Mamba came to the Office of the President where the ceremony was held. Dr. Huang Kun-huei, secretary-general to the President, and ROC Foreign Minister John Chang were also present.

After the ceremony, on behalf of the government and the people of the ROC, President Lee extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Mamba and asked the latter to convey his congratulations to King Mswati III on the king's 29th birthday.

President Lee pointed out that the ROC and Swaziland have maintained close diplomatic relations and economic cooperation. The ROC government will further strengthen bilateral relations based on the existing ties of friendship, the President said.

At the end, President Lee hoped Ambassador Mamba would take time to visit Taiwan's rural areas and have a firsthand knowledge of all kinds of constructions here.

For his part, Ambassador Mamba told President Lee that he is proud to accept this new assignment, adding that he will spare no efforts at promoting bilateral cooperation and exchanges. "During my tenure in Taipei there won't be any turnabout in ROC-Swaziland relations," the Ambassador noted.
