Madame Lee Meets with Swazi Princess Mnencwase
1997-07-09

Madame Lee Teng-hui, the ROC's first lady, this morning met with Princess Mnencwase, elder sister of the late King Sobhuza II of the Kingdom of Swaziland, and nine of the late king's wives.

First of all, on behalf of President Lee Teng-hui, Madame Lee extended a warm welcome to Princess Mnencwase and her delegation. Madame Lee quoted a Chinese saying, "It is a great pleasure to greet friends coming from far", to describe her gladness in receiving the distinguished guests from Swaziland.

Madame Lee said that the relationship between two countries is just like the friendship between two persons-- only by making friends in sincerity could friendship last forever. She hoped that the relations between the ROC and Swaziland will be further strengthened based on the existing ties of friendship.

Meanwhile, Madame Lee also thanked King Mswati III and Princess Mnencwase for their hospitable reception during President and Madame Lee's visit to Swaziland in 1994.

At the end, on behalf of President Lee and for herself, Madame Lee asked the Princess to convey their best wishes to King Mswati III and his mother.

For her part, Princess Mnencwase expressed her appreciation not only for Madame Lee's warm reception but also for the ROC's recent assistance in constructing a hospital and training the medical staff for Swaziland.
