President Lee Receives Credentials from Guinea-Bissau's New Ambassador

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received credentials presented by H.E. Adelino Mano Queta, the Republic of Guinea-Bissau's new ambassador to the Republic of China.

Accompanied by Director John Feng of the ROC Foreign Ministry's Protocol Department, Ambassador Queta came to the Office of the President to present his credentials. Dr. Huang Kun-huei, secretary-general to the President, ROC Vice Premier and Foreign Minister John Chang, and Guinea-Bissau Embassy Counselor Pedro T. Cabral were also present.

After the presentation, President Lee, on behalf of the ROC government and people, extended a warm welcome to Ambassador Queta and asked the latter to relay his greetings to Guinea-Bissau President Joao Bernardo Vieira.

After expressing his appreciation for Guinea-Bissau's firm support for the ROC's bid to rejoin the United Nations, President Lee noted that the ROC government treasures the freindship between the two countries, adding that the ROC is willing to assist Guinea-Bissau in economic development to further improve the livelihood of its people. Meanwhile, President Lee invited President Vieira to visit the ROC again, and he said that he is pleased to visit the west African country to further strengthen bilateral ties.

For his part, Ambassador Queta said that it is his great honor to be stationed in the ROC and that he will do his utmost to help boost ROC-Guinea-Bissau cooperation and exchanges. President Vieira will always do whatever he could to cement and develop the relations between both countries, the ambassador reiterated.
