Vice President Lien Welcomes Dominican Vice President Fernandez

Vice President and Madame Lien Chan this evening hosted a banquet in honor of visiting Dominican Republic Vice President and Madame Jaime David Fernandez Mirabal and their delegation. Dr. and Mrs. Ding Mou-shih(secretary-general of the ROC National Security Council), Dr. and Mrs. Jason Hu( ROC minister of foreign affairs), and other heads of government agencies concerned in this country were invited to the banquet held at the Taipei Guest House.

During the banquet, Vice President Lien delivered a speech to extend his heartiest welcome to the distinguished guests. Mentioning the long-term friendly and cooperative relations between the Republic of China and Dominican Republic, Vice President Lien noted that exchanges of visit of ordinary people and high-level officials between both countries have increased in recent years, as Dominican President Leonel Fernandez and Foreign Minister Eduardo Latorre visited the ROC last year and early this year, respectively, and he himself led an ROC delegation to attend the inauguration ceremony of President Leonel Fernandez last year, and now, Vice President Fernandez's visit here.

In his speech, Vice President Lien also expressed thanks to the Dominican Republic for its firm support for the ROC in the international community, add that the ROC will make greater efforts to further advance the friendly and cooperative relations between the two countries.

Before the banquet, the two vice presidents met for a 40-minute discussion during which they exchanged views on matters of mutual concern. And then Vice President Lien was presented a medal by his Dominican counterpart in a tribute to his contributions to promoting bilateral friendship. Vice President Lien received the honor with gratitude, saying that he will do his utmost to further enhance ROC-Dominican relations.
