Vice President Lien Entertains OCAC Members
1997-11-18

Vice President Lien Chan today entertained more than 150 members of the Overseas Chinese Affairs Commission (OCAC) at luncheon, and thanked them for their patriotism and outstanding service to overseas Chinese communities around the world.

The Vice President said during the luncheon that the Republic of China has made great achievements in economic development, democratization, educational reform, and some other fields in the recent decades, but Beijing is trying its best to isolate the ROC in the world community.

He therefore urged all the OCAC members to redouble their efforts to serve as a bridge of communication between overseas Chinese and the ROC government, and to enhance the welfare for the overseas Chinese in their communities.

Dr. James C.Y. Chu, chairman of the cabinet-level OCAC, was also invited to the luncheon.
