President Lee Meets with San Salvador Mayor Silva
1997-11-28

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received Mayor and Mrs. Hector Silva Arguello of San Salvador, capital of the Republic of El Salvador, and extended a warm welcome to them.

During the meeting, President Lee and Mayor Silva exchanged views on ROC-Salvadoran relations, political democracy and city management.

President Lee said that the ROC and El Salvador have enjoyed close friendship and that the ROC, with its development experience, is willing to help El Salvador boost its economy. ROC-Salvadoran relations, based on the bilateral government-to-government and people-to-people cooperation, will become more solid, added President Lee.

President Lee also pointed out that Central America may follow the step of Asia to emerge as another economic powerhouse, and that the Salvadoran economy, with its diligent and law-abiding people and its able leadership promoting economic development, would have a bright future.

Accompanied by ROC Vice Foreign Minister H. L. Ou and Salvadoran Ambassador David Ernesto Panama, Mayor and Mrs. Silva came to the Office of the President for the meeting. Dr. Ding Mou-shih, secretary-general of the National Security Council, and Dr. Su Chi, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the President, were also present.
