President Lee Receives Credentials From New Gambian Ambassador

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received credentials presented by H. E. Mambury B. Njie, the new Gambian ambassador to the Republic of China.

Accompanied by Director John Feng of the ROC Foreign Ministry's Protocol Department, Ambassador Njie came to the Office of the President where the ceremony was held. Dr. Huang Kun-huei, secretary-general to the President, and ROC Foreign Minister Jason Hu were also present.

After the ceremony, on behalf of the government and the people of the ROC, President Lee extended his warm welcome to Ambassador Njie and expressed appreciation for the latter's efforts to promote bilateral relations between the ROC and Gambia when serving as charging d'affaires and acting deputy head of the Gambian embassy before being appointed ambassador.

Ambassador Njie told the President that he was honored to take the assignment, adding that he will do his utmost to strengthen cooperation and exchanges between the two countries during his tenure of office.
