President Lee Meets with Belize Minister Martinez
1998-02-26

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received Mr. Alfredo Martinez, Belize's minister of industry and commerce, extending him a warm welcome to the ROC.

The President told the foreign guests that the Republic of China is willing to further enhance links with Belize and hopes that exchanges and cooperation between both countries can be expanded in the near future.

President Lee also recalled that, when he attended the 1997 Central American summit in El Salvador during a visit to Latin America last September, he talked with Belize Prime Minister Manuel Esquivel about matters related to Taipei-Belmopan exchanges in fields including trade, economy and culture.

Minister Martinez echoed President Lee's hopes, adding that the government and people of Belize are very grateful to the ROC for its assistance during the past years.

Mr. and Mrs. Martinez were accompanied by ROC Vice Foreign Minister Dawei Lee to the Office of the President for the meeting. Also present was Dr. Ding Mou-shih, secretary-general of the ROC National Security Council.
