Taipei, Aug. 11 (CNA) The Ghost Festival, which falls on Aug. 12 this year, has developed from a day devoted to pleasing the spirits into a cultural activity unique to Taiwan and observed by all ethnic groups, President Chen Shui-bian said in Keelung, northern Taiwan Monday.
Presiding over a Ghost Festival celebration in the port city, Chen said he wished good luck to all people on the island and for the whole country.
Ghost Festival falls on the 15th day of seventh month on the lunar calendar and is observed by local people to please homeless spirits.
