Vice President Lien Chan arrived in Grenada at 19:30 p.m., May 9 (7:30 am, May 10, Taipei time) for a three-day visit. He was greeted by Grenadian Foreign Minister Raphaer Fletcher at the airport.
The Vice President made a statement upon arrival. The full text of his statement is as follows:
It t is indeed a great honour and privilege for my wife, myself and other members of my delegation, to visit Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique. I would first like to express my sincere thanks to all of you who have come to the airport to welcome the delegation of the Republic of China.
I treasure this opportunity to visit this beautiful tri-island state. I bring the warmest greetings from His Excellency Lee Teng-hui, President of the Republic of China, and the Government of the Republic of China to all our friends in Grenada.
Ever since the establishment of diplomatic relations between our two countries in 1989, we have enjoyed a strong and growing partnership in the political, economic, agricultural, cultural and other important areas. It is my sincere hope that my visit to Grenada will serve to further strengthen the close ties of friendship and cooperation which happily exist between our two states and peoples.
I look forward to the pleasure of exchanging views with His Excellency Governor General Sir Daniel Williams, the Honourable Prime Minister Dr. Keith Mitchell and other high ranking officials of the Grenadian Government on matters of mutual interest. I am certain that we can work together to explore new frontiers and areas for further cooperation to reach our shared goals.
Once again, I am grateful to you for your heart-warming reception.
