President Lee Meets with Governor Miller of Nevada

President Lee Teng-hui this morning received Governor Bob Miller of the State of Nevada, USA, and extended a warm welcome to him.

 

Governor Miller is visiting Taiwan to facilitate a direct flight between Taipei and Las Vegas and to expand tourism in his state. During the meeting, President Lee said that large numbers of Taiwan tourists visit Nevada but noted that there is room for further development. He expressed his pleasure to see such direct flight established in the near future for it would further increase bilateral exchanges between Taiwan and Nevada. The President also welcomed Nevada businesses and residents to come to Taiwan to make investments, thus strengthening bilateral cooperative relations.

 

Governor Miller, on his first visit to the Republic of China, said that he is quite impressed by the ROC's excellent performance in withstanding the Asian financial turmoil, and he praised President Lee's able leadership.

 

Accompanied by ROC Vice Foreign Minister Da-wei Lee, Governor Miller, along with Mr. John Waihee(former Hawaii governor), Mr. Bill Raggio(Nevada State senator) and Mr. Thomas G. Tait(executive director, Nevada Commission on Tourism), came to the Office of the President for the meeting. Also present were Dr. Ding Mou-shih, secretary-general of the ROC National Security Council, and Dr. Su Chi, deputy secretary-general of the Office of the President.
