Vice President Lien Declares Suspension of Presidential Campaign

Vice President Lien Chan announced today that he would suspend his presidential campaign immediately in order to devote himself to the rescue and relief work of the September 21st earthquake.

Taiwan's most catastrophic earthquake this century hit the island today, which caused great damage and significant loss of human life and property. Vice President Lien said that he would dedicate himself to the tasks of post-quake reconstruction and resettlement.

He stated that as the earthquake-stricken areas suffer heavy damage, rescuing trapped victims will certainly take priority. Therefore, he and Premier Vincent Siew would suspend all their campaign activities for the time being.
