President Chen Pays Tribute to Late President Chiang

Taipei, May 23 (CNA) Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian on Tuesday visited the Chiang Kai-shek Memorial Hall to pay tribute to the late President Chiang Kai-shek.

 

Chen went to the memorial accompanied by Vice President Annette Lu, the chiefs of the Executive Yuan, the Judicial Yuan, the Examination Yuan, the Legislative Yuan, and the Control Yuan, as well as other ranking officials.

 

After the playing of the national anthem, Chen and accompanying officials gave bows before the bronze statue of Chiang and paid their silent tributes.

 

The solemn ceremony attracted lots of spectators. Chen and Lu waved to them before leaving the scene.

 

Since assuming the presidency on May 20, Chen has visited the Martyrs' Shrine and the offshore island of Kinmen. He has also called on former Presdient Lee Teng-hui, and is planning to visit the widows of the late Presidents Chiang Ching-kuo and Yen Chia-kan.
