July 16 (CNA) At Chingchuankang, Chen was briefed on the ROC warplanes' defense, intercepting and emergency take-off operations. The air base is home to a wing of 70 locally built Indigenous Defense Fighters (IDFs). President Chen ordered several IDF fighter jets to scramble for a simulated interception mission and was satisfied with the air force staff and the planes' performance.
Chen, who just commissioned the last installment of 60 IDFs at the Tainan air base in southern Taiwan on Friday, said he admires all ROC military servicemen's sacrifice and devoted services for the country. He also called on the Legislature to support the Cabinet-proposed budget plan for various defense and military build-up plans.
