Taipei, July 16 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian on Sunday called for close coordination and cooperation between the executive and legislative branches.
Likening Cabinet-Legislature relations to a relationship between the pilot and the flight control tower, Chen said the pilot must adopt the opinion of the control tower and the control tower must respect the steering right of the pilot. Chen made the remarks before boarding the presidential jet for a local tour.
In a flight, Chen said, the pilot takes the helm and is obliged to send all passengers to their destination safely, while the control tower must assist the pilot in taking off and landing, and in modifying the flight paths. Chen said he earnestly hopes that the Cabinet and the Legislature can strengthen communications and coordination to ensure smooth operations of the government.
