Taipei, July 19 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said he expects his administration to be as clean as the Chingtienkang plain, during an inspection tour of recreational and ecological conservation facilities at the Yangmingshan National Park on the outskirts of Taipei. Walking on the green grassland, Chen "The new government will step up anti-organized crime and anti-corruption campaign to eradicate gangster involvement in politics," he said, adding that it will also push for establishment of a healthy constitutional system to enhance the government efficiency.
Noting the dumping of toxic chemical solvents into the Kao-Ping Creek has seriously contaminated tapwater supplies in the southern port city of Kaohsiung, Chen said such action was prompted by greed and selfishness.
The president urged all local people to drop the wrong concepts of greed and monopoly. "We should instead learn to share good things with others and pursue balanced development," Chen said, adding that sharing and balance are the basic principles for his campaign promise to build Taiwan into a "green silicon island."
