Taipei, July 28 (CNA) Chiang Kai-shek International Airport's second terminal was inaugurated after 11 years of planning and construction.
Vice President Annette Lu, speaking at the inauguration of the NT$17.9 billion (US$577 million) building, said that it is the pride of Taiwan and signifies the nation's entry into a new stage on the international scene.
Vice President Lu noted that the Republic of China now maintains diplomatic relations with only 29 nations in the world, pointing out that there are 160 countries with a total population of 5.9 billion people that do not recognize Taiwan.
She expressed the hope that the inauguration of the second terminal will help the people of Taiwan shoulder more responsibility with confidence in acting as ambassadors of the island when traveling abroad so that Taiwan can stand up diplomatically in the world community.
