2000-10-18

Taipei, Oct. 18 (CNA) Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian received the head of a Swaziland economic delegation Wednesday and told his guest he hopes to visit Swaziland in the near future.

During the meeting, Chen also told Majozi V. Sithole, minister of economic planning and development, that the ROC appreciates Swaziland's long-term support and assistance to Taiwan's bid to enter the United Nations and other international organizations.

Sithole for his part said that his country is willing to speak for the ROC in its bid to join international organizations, firm in its belief that ROC entry will benefit other nations and that the ROC will contribute more to the international community.

The president noted that he twice visited South Africa during his terms as legislator and Taipei City mayor, but had yet to visit Swaziland.

Accompanying Sithole at the meeting were Roy Fanourakis, minister of agriculture and cooperatives; Prince Gaduza, minister of public works and transport, and Swaziland Ambassador to the ROC Moses M. Dlamini. The Swaziland delegation arrived in Taipei Sunday to attend an economic and technology cooperation meeting that will last until Thursday.
