President Chen Presides over the Opening Ceremony for Kaohsiung Municipal Extreme Sports Stadium

Kaohsiung, July 26 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Saturday while presiding over the opening ceremony for Kaohsiung Municipal Extreme Sports Stadium that the government will push for the holding of an international extreme sports competition in Taiwan.

Chen said the extreme sports tournament will satisfy the curiosity and aspirations of the people regarding extreme sports and will promote the habit of exercise among young people.

The president said extreme sports have emerged as a favorite kind of activity among the youth of the world. He said that in recent years, these sports, such as in-line skating, skate-boarding and bicycle stunts, have attracted more and more young people because of their features of stirring the imagination and challenging one to surpass their physical limits.

President Chen, accompanied by Chen Che-nan, deputy secretary-general of the Presidential Office, and Kaohsiung Mayor Frank Hsieh, toured around the stadium.
