Taipei, Nov. 1 (CNA) The Presidential Office Science and Technology Consulting Committee was formally inaugurated Wednesday at the Taipei International Conference Center. President Chen Shui-bian sent a message to the inauguration ceremony.
Chen said in his message that sci-tech development is the main way to promote the growth of the national economy and quality of life for the people of Taiwan. It is also crucial to strengthening the nation's overall competitiveness, he added.
However, he stressed that during the development of national science and technology, the government must also maintain a rational concept of perpetual national development by achieving a balance between sci-tech development and ecological-environmental protection to ensure that sci-tech development not only meets the demands of the nation but also promotes the welfare of future generations.
