Taipei, Nov. 20 (CNA) Republic of China President Chen Shui-bian received Nebraska Governor Mike Johanns Monday and extended his appreciation for the latter's long-standing support for Taiwan. Johanns arrived in Taipei Sunday at the head of a Nebraskan economic and trade delegation. It is his third visit to Taiwan.
In the meeting, which took place at the Presidential Office, Chen expressed the hope that the visit will enhance bilateral relations between Taiwan and Nebraska, especially in the exchange of agricultural products such as grain.
During the talks, Chen asked Johanns to use his personal connections with influential American congressmen to help Taiwan secure a more positive role in the World Trade Organization and the World Health Organization. The governor said that he is willing to do whatever he can, both for his state and for Taiwan.
The two attorneys-turned-politicians also exchanged views on environmental protection.
