President Chen and Vice President Lu Watch over an Anti-terrorism Drill of the "Wan-An" Defense Exercises in Yunlin County
2003-08-28

Yunlin, Taiwan, Aug. 28 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian watched over an anti-terrorism drill Thursday at a petrochemical complex in southern Taiwan and hailed the skillful techniques employed.

Chen noted that the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks on the United States totally changed people's understanding about forms of war.

The petrochemical complex, an important industrial base in Taiwan, is a possible target of terrorist attacks and is strategically important in war time, Chen said, pointing to the reason why the drill was being held here.

Chen stressed that it will be the priority work for the government to integrate various emergency task forces in the country to form a more sufficient security net against attacks or natural disasters.

He said that Yunlin County Government's performance in the drill can serve as a model for other cities and counties in fighting against terrorist attacks.
