President Chen Officiates at a Ceremony Marking the Decoration of Two Brass Hats upon Promotion

Taipei, Aug. 29 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Friday that next week will be a "military week" featuring a variety of war game drills and related activities, and he exhorted all members of the Republic of China armed forces to do their utmost in safeguarding the country.

The president expressed his respect and appreciation to the ROC military for their devotion in ensuring Taiwan's security. Chen made the remarks at the Presidential Office while officiating at a ceremony marking the decoration of two brass hats upon promotion.

He congratulated the two officers, saying that greater honor means greater responsibility.

Gen. Chen Chen-hsiang, president of the National Defense University, was decorated with a Second-class Medal of Pao Ting upon his being appointed a strategic adviser to the president, while Hsieh Chien-tong, commander-in-chief of the Reserves Command, was appointed to fill the vacancy left by Chen. Hsieh was decorated with the Third-class Medal of Pao Ting.
