President Chen Takes Part in an Activity of the State-owned Taiwan Salt Industrial Corporation

Tainan, southern Taiwan, Sept. 6 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian visited Tainan County in southern Taiwan Saturday to take part in an activity of the state-owned Taiwan Salt Industrial Corp. prior to the Moon Festival, which falls on Sept. 11 this year.

Chen bestowed cash prizes on the winners of a salt carving competition, noting that Hualien in eastern Taiwan is famous for its stone carving, while Miaoli in northern Taiwan is known for its wood carving, and Tainan will now be known for its salt carving. He added that salt carving has combined the local industrial culture and the arts.

The president, who is from Tainan, said that "it's good to be home," while many local thronged around him to take his picture.

Chen also lauded Taiwan Salt for its transformation. The company has diversified into many other fields. In addition to salt products, its skin care and beauty products are selling briskly, and the president said that his family enjoys Taiwan Salt products every day.
