Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) The Republic of China appreciates its friendships with its Central American allies and will contribute to the development of the Central American region through bilateral and multilateral cooperation programs and frameworks, President Chen Shui-bian said Monday.
Addressing a party jointly hosted by the embassies of Nicaragua, Guatemala and Honduras in Taipei in celebration of the 182nd anniversary of the three countries' independence from Spain, Chen said that he and the Central American leaders discussed various cooperation programs during the fourth summit of heads of states and governments of the ROC, Central American nations and the Dominican Republic held in Taipei Aug. 21-22.
The discussions were helpful in outlining the direction of future bilateral and multilateral cooperation, Chen said. The ROC also attaches importance to Central American integration, he added.
