President Chen Receives Foreign Attendees of the First Democratic Pacific Assembly
2003-09-19

Taipei, Sept. 19 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received foreign attendees of the first Democratic Pacific Assembly Friday at the Presidential Office, extending them a warm welcome and wishing the meeting a great success.

Chen told his guests that it is meaningful for Taiwan to have them participating in the three-day meeting which opened Friday, two days prior to "World Peace Day" and "World Marine Day."

He said that their presence has given Taiwan more confidence in organizing the Taiwan Business Alliance Conference to be held in Taipei in late October which is aimed at soliciting more foreign investment and revving up the country's economy.

Chen expressed his appreciation to his vice president, Annette Lu, for initiating the meeting and her efforts to make the assembly a reality.
