Taipei, Oct. 1 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian reiterated his determination Wednesday to push forward the holding of referendums.
Receiving representatives of Taiwanese Presbyterian Churches in the United States at the Presidential Office, Chen said that referendums are a basic right of the people which cannot be limited by a government or political party.
Chen expressed the hope that the first referendum in Chinese history will be held as soon as possible in Taiwan.
The representatives are in Taiwan for the sixth congress of the World Association of Taiwanese Christian Churches.
