Taipei, Oct. 4 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Saturday promoting introduction of a new constitution is a necessary step to build Taiwan into a normal, complete and great country.
Addressing a meeting of Taiwanese Christians, Chen said his appeal to introduce a new constitution for Taiwan in 2006 is by no means "boring" campaign rhetoric as claimed by opposition parties. "The call touches on an important topic worthy of study and discussion," Chen said, adding that he hopes that the call can spur a process of constitutional reform to craft a political framework that would fit Taiwan's realities and deepen its democratic system.
