President Chen Attends the First Taiwan Business Awards Ceremony

Taipei, Oct. 16 (CNA) Taiwan's economy and investment environment are improving along with the implementation of projects for economic and financial reforms and the strengthening of democratization, President Chen Shui-bian said Thursday.

Addressing the first Taiwan Business Awards ceremony, Chen said that Taiwan's competitiveness ranks sixth in the world, according to the 2003 global competitiveness report released by the Lousanne Institute in Switzerland, one notch up from the previous year's level.

Taiwan ranks third in terms of economic growth potential in the next five to eight years in the 2002 global microeconomic competitiveness report by the Switzerland-based World Economic Forum, he went on, adding that Taiwan ranks fourth in a global investment climate survey released by the internationally noted Business Environment Risk Intelligence (BERI).

The ratings illustrate Taiwan's dynamic economy and its strong future competitiveness, according to Chen.
