Taipei, Oct. 21 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian said Tuesday that the support of overseas Chinese to the Republic of China is one of the nation's most precious assets.
Speaking at the Presidential Office to more than 40 leaders of overseas Chinese benevolent associations in San Francisco and other cities in northern California, Chen said overseas Chinese have always made great contributions to the modernization of the nation since the late 19th century.
Oversea Chinese are the nation's "father of democratic reform," and one of the important sources of strength for national modernization and development, he said.
President Chen expressed the hope that all overseas Chinese will support the Republic of China even more enthusiastically, and that more overseas Chinese businessmen will invest in Taiwan.
