President Chen Receives Global Chinese Art and Culture Legacy Award Winners

Taipei, Oct. 22 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian on Wednesday received global Chinese art and culture legacy award winners, praising them as the glory of Chinese culture.

There are 12 legacy winners in different areas of arts and culture, and two masters who won lifetime contribution awards this year because of their devotion to works and innovations in the areas of culture, arts, dance and handcrafts.

The president spoke highly of the Republic of China Senior Jaycees Club, the sponsor of the award, saying that it has long been dedicated to servicing society, promoting traditional culture and arts, and has spent a lot of time and money sponsoring the legacy awards and selecting 142 winners over the past decade. "Their efforts have given a needed boost to the dynamism of the local culture of Taiwan," the president said.

The president also commended the exhibition by the Republic of China Senior Jaycees Club showcasing results of the competition over the last 10 years and the publication of a who's who of past legacy winners.

He expressed the hope that through the concerted efforts of the government, private and business sectors, Taiwan can better promote and preserve the arts and culture.

The winners of the 10th global Chinese culture and arts legacy awards were Chuang Po-lin, Chien Ming-chiang, Lien Sheng-yen, Yeh Wei-han, Cheng Shih-fa, Pang Yueh-hsiung, Chen Chia-teh, Kao Chi-ming, Liu Huei-feng, Ho Kuo-chao, Huang Cheng-tiao, and Chu Hung-ping. The two lifetime contribution award winners were Chen Chi-lu and Wu Mei-lin.
