Taipei, Oct. 24 (CNA) The government will gradually increase its expenditures for technology research and development to the level of 3 percent of the gross domestic product by 2008, President Chen Shui-bian said Friday.
Addressing the second President's Science Awards ceremony, Chen said that technological development is an important indicator of a country's power and its international competitiveness.
A country is richer to have technology than to obtain materials, he stressed, adding that he expects that Taiwan's technological development will reach the level of developed countries by 2010.
