President Chen Attends the Opening of the Taiwan Ecotechnology Exhibition

Taipei, Oct. 25 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian on Saturday praised the Taipei County Government for using environmentally friendly techniques to clean up several rivers.

At the Taiwan Ecotechnology Exhibition held in the MRT station in Tamsui, northern Taiwan, Chen, along with Taipei County Magistrate Su Tseng-chang, several high-ranking government officials, and representatives of domestic environmental protection groups, read a declaration as a promise to work for the continued preservation of Taiwan's beautiful mountains and rivers.

After visiting the ecotechnology exhibition, Chen also inspected the clean-up work of Tatun Creek, Sanchih, northern Taiwan.

Chen said he has designated Lee Yuan-tseh, president of Academia Sinica, the most prestigious academic institute in Taiwan, as the convener of a consulting commission for the preservation and development of the land of the country, focusing on ecotechnology.
