Taipei, Oct. 29 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu encouraged small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) Wednesday to focus on innovation.
Addressing the 2003 National Business Start-Up Award ceremony, Lu said that Taiwan's SMEs have made great contributions to the national development.
Along with increasing globalization and the development of the knowledge-base economy, she noted, SMEs should attach more importance to the acquisition of technology as well as to innovation.
Lu said that she hoped that Taiwan enterprises will make use of the advantages they have in the knowledge-based economy, such as their creativity and technological ability, to cope with the impact brought by globalization.
Products should not only be "made in Taiwan" but also "innovated in Taiwan," Lu added.
