Taipei, Dec. 15 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu met Asia Foundation President William P. Fuller Monday at the Presidential Office and thanked Fuller for the foundation's assistance and support in Asia's development, including Taiwan.

Lu said she hoped for strengthened and enhanced relations between Taiwan and the foundation and exchanged opinions with Fuller on bilateral cooperation and on issues related to democratization and law and order in Taiwan and the rest of Asia.

The vice president also touched on topics pertaining to Taiwan women's status in society. Citing the results of a recent survey by a magazine, she told Fuller that about 70 percent of the Taiwan people think women perform better than men in the workplace, while some 90 percent of the female respondents are confident that they are more capable than their male peers.

For his part, Fuller said he was deeply impressed by Taiwan's progress in gender equality and thanked Taiwan for its friendship. He promised to further step up cooperation with Taiwan and help train talented individuals for this country.

The United States-based Asia Foundation seeks to promote greater understanding between Asians and Americans in the hope of building a strengthened U.S.-Asia relationship.
