Taipei, Dec. 24 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian and his wife Wu Shu-chen have issued a joint season's greeting card on the Internet to wish local people a Happy New Year, the Presidential Office said Wednesday.
The first couple's electronic New Year's greeting card features a theme of "faith in oneself, faith in reform and faith in Taiwan," the Presidential Office said. The card features an image of Taiwan composed of fingerprints of the more than 20 teachers and students who won medals in the 2003 Olympiads in various scientific fields.
Noting that the image symbolizes unity and strength, a Presidential Office official said Chen hopes the public will make concerted efforts with the government in the new year to push for Taiwan's progress in all facets.
Meanwhile, the official said, Vice President Annette Lu also issued an electronic greeting card on the Internet. Lu's card features a lotus in full bloom on water to symbolize her wish for a peaceful, joyful and prosperous new year for the country and its citizens, the official added.
