2004-02-17

Taipei, Feb. 17 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian presided Tuesday over the opening of the Taiwan Design Center (TDC) , which coincided with the inauguration of the second phase of the Nankang Software Industrial Park in suburban Taipei.

Praising the center's opening as a milestone in the history of Taiwan's design industry, which is in full gear to establish a greater international presence and standing with its value-added services, Chen claimed that the center is a crystallization of Taiwan's potential for creativity.

He urged the public to seek new horizons to achieve sustainable progress, as Taiwan is faced with robust competition from around the world, and he expressed his strong belief that there is no turning back from the road ahead. "A bright future will only wait for a Taiwan that is moving up relentlessly, " Chen said, adding that "the center will play a leadership role in helping turn Taiwan into a front-runner in the current knowledge-based era featuring ideas, quality and speed in a global race."
