Taipei, April 12 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received two high-ranking government officials from Panama Monday at the Presidential Office and thanked them for the congratulations conveyed by Panamanian President Mireya Elisa Moscoso Rodriguez upon his March 20 re-election.
During a meeting with Panamanian Foreign Minister Harmondio Arias and Minister of Economy and Finance Noberto Delgado, Chen also noted that Moscoso was the first head of state to congratulate him following the election.
Chen told his guests that he deeply treasures the cordial and solid Taiwan-Panama relations and expressed his hope for eternal friendship between the two countries.
Arias also conveyed Moscoso's concern over Chen's condition after he was shot on the eve of the election. He further told Chen that Moscoso plans to personally lead a high-profile delegation that will attend Chen's May 20 inauguration.
