Taipei, May 10 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian received this year's "10 most outstanding mothers" in Taiwan at the Presidential Office Monday, praising all mothers as being "courageous and smart" in the way they take care of their families.
Chen said that reviewing the achievements of the outstanding mothers, it is clear that "all mothers are the same." "Mothers around the world are the same, as they are equally loving, courageous, tough and smart when taking care of their children and families," Chen said. "The mothers' love, courage, strength and wisdom are worthy of praise, support and emulation by all other members of society, " he added.
This year's 10 most outstanding mothers have one thing in common, the president said: The mothers are undaunted by hardships and find a way to overcome difficulties to enable their children to stand tall in the face of adversity.
President Chen also offered his appreciation to the Barrier-Free Environment Promotion Association of the Republic of China, which sponsors the 10 most outstanding mothers award activity.
After the event, Chen chatted with these exemplary mothers about the problems and difficulties that they face regarding their children's academic pursuits, daily lives and how the mothers integrate their careers into their family life.
Chen promised that he would pass the suggestions he was given to the Ministry of the Interior for reference when it is drafting policies on social welfare.
