Vice President Lu Embarks on a Trip to Central Amercia

Taipei, May 28 (CNA) Vice President Annette Lu, at the head of an official delegation of the Republic of China, embarked on a 14-day overseas trip Friday that will take her to El Salvador, Costa Rica and Guatemala.

The main purpose of Lu's trip is to attend the inauguration of El Salvador's President-elect Elias Antonio Saca and Vice President-elect Ana Vilma Albanez de Escobar to be held June 1, in her capacity as President Chen Shui-bian's special envoy.

Among Lu's entourage are Presidential Office Vice Secretary-General Huang Chih-fang, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs Francisco L.Y. Hwang, Government Information Office Deputy Director-General Lee Cher-jean, Javier Hou, director-general of the Department of Central and South American Affairs under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as several high-tech experts and human rights activists.
