Taipei, June 6 (CNA) President Chen Shui-bian was saddened after learning of the death of former U.S. President Ronald Reagan early Saturday and asked the country's representative to Washington to convey his sympathy to Reagan's family, according to a presidential aide.
The aide quoted Chen as lauding Reagan's achievements during his two four- year terms as president of the United States and said that his presidency was a legacy that was admired by Americans.
For the Republic of China, Chen was quoted as saying, Reagan will be remembered as a good friend whose support helped the island survive many crises, and his death is an immeasurable loss both to the country and to the world.
